South Gujarat is a city located at a distance of only 15 km from the coast and is the headquarters of Surat district. It is a city situated on the south bank of the river Tapi and is situated at a distance of 15 km from the mouth of Tapi. Surat is the second largest city in Gujarat and the ninth largest in India. Surat ranks second only to Ahmedabad in Gujarat in terms of population as well as industrial production. About 40% to 5% of the world's diamonds are mined in Surat. Surat's largest industries are textile weaving (zari, kinkhab and others) and dyeing-printing. In 2007, Surat had the highest GDP of India with 12.5% GDP. Was one of the cities with the highest growth rate. According to the Ministry of Urban Development, Surat is the third cleanest city in India, [4] and the fourth fastest growing city in the world.
